Would Hubert Cecil Booth, the original inventor of the vacuum cleaner ever have envisaged the variety of machines that would be sold one hundred years after he made his first one? It was a huge device that had to be pulled by horses. It remained outside the restaurant it was demonstrated in and the hoses were passed in through the windows.

Now we have models for every purpose from cleaning the average home to using in the dirtiest warehouse. How do you determine which model to buy? First you must decide how much you expect to use your vacuum cleaner? If you’re in the market for a new one than that is one of the questions that you need to ask yourself. The average machine expects to be used less than two hours weekly. The home models are designed for low usage. If that isn’t what you need then you should consider purchasing a commercial vacuum cleaner instead. They are designed to operate at least ten to fifteen hours a week.

Maybe you want a commercial vacuum cleaner because you have a store or maybe you’re running a cleaning service. Either reason would make that the kind of machine better suited to your needs. The commercial vacuum cleaner is built differently; they have bigger motors, thicker cords, and a wider hose. The average price range for these are around two hundred dollars.  They will also tend to last considerably longer than the home models.

Some models use a cloth bag to catch the dirt. The bag will be made of a heavy-duty cloth, often multi-layered. The obvious advantage to this in that is does not have to be changed every time the machine gets full, but is simply emptied out and the bag replaced. The commercial vacuum cleaner can an upright, canister or backpack style vacuum. The type you use is completely up to personal preference.
